The multi‑stakeholder gathering attended by representatives from central ministries, technology companies, civil‑society organisations, universities and international bodies deliberated on how to nurture an open, trusted and inclusive internet ecosystem in India.

Guided by the theme “Advancing Internet Governance for an Inclusive and Sustainable Viksit Bharat”, the forum examined three sub‑themes: Inclusive Digital FutureDigital Infrastructure for Resilient and Sustainable Growth and AI for People, Planet and Progress. Panels and workshops addressed topics such as rural connectivity, open digital systems, domain name and DNS security, cybersecurity readiness, the evolution of India’s digital public infrastructure, data protection, content moderation, ethical deployment of artificial intelligence and opportunities for young innovators.

The event hosted four panel discussions and twelve workshops that brought together sectoral, policy and community perspectives. Speakers from the United Nations Internet Governance Forum, Meta, Google Cloud, the CCAOI and several academic institutions brought global as well as national viewpoints, situating India’s efforts within the broader international discourse on internet governance.

Inaugurating the forum, Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) Shri Jitin Prasada, remarked: “The India Internet Governance Forum has made it clear that progress in the digital space comes from everyone working together. Our focus is to give every citizen safe, affordable and reliable access to the internet. With strong 5G coverage, solid digital public systems and a consent-based Data Protection Act, we are creating an environment that protects people and opens doors for new opportunities. A country of our size also faces real cyber risks, and managing them is not the job of the government alone. Industry, academia and civil society all have a part to play in building a safer online space. India will continue to support global cooperation in internet governance, especially for countries that still struggle with access. Our aim is simple, reach the last mile and make sure technology truly benefits everyone.”.

Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY, noted:India Internet Governance Forum underscores both the significant progress India has achieved in its digital journey as well as emerging challenges with advent of AI. With close to one billion users online, India stack has showcased a population scale model not only for global south but also for developed world. However, such scale entails greater responsibility. Advancing trust, safety and resilience is imperative, as cyberattacks, misinformation and misuse of digital technologies affect all. Strengthening user protection and bolstering the fundamental systems that support the internet will require coordinated action. Our collective objective is to ensure a secure & open internet which is trusted by users. We must also work toward increasing internet resilience by actively working at different layers of internet technologies.”

Dr Devesh Tyagi, CEO, NIXI, said:India Internet Governance Forum stands on a simple but powerful belief that India’s internet story would be written by multiple actors following the multi-stakeholder model. This is what gives IIGF its character, a space where every voice matters. One of the proudest outcomes of the IIGF journey has been the strengthening of institutional mechanisms for informed, inclusive decision-making. The special interest groups on the future of the internet, domain names and numbers, and internet protocols and standards are helping build sustained expertise and deeper dialogue.” He further said: “The NIXI Internet Intern Scheme has reached more than 10,000 students in the past year, and many of them are now participating at international levels. More than ten students have already secured roles across the globe, most of them in policy frameworks.”

Throughout the sessions, participants underscored that universal, meaningful access must remain at the core of India’s digital journey. Discussions also highlighted the need to strengthen digital public infrastructure and build trust through robust standards and coordinated efforts.

The forum concluded with a shared commitment to building a safer, more inclusive and resilient internet for India and the world.

Winning Design of India-AI Impact Summit Logo Features Ashoka Chakra, Symbolising Ethical Governance, Justice, Constitutional Values and India’s Leadership in Responsible AI Innovation

The Government of India recently unveiled the logo of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, set to take place on February 19–20 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The logo for the Summit was selected through the Logo Design Contest, hosted on the MyGov platform from May 28 to June 12 2025. The final entries were reviewed by the Emerging Technologies team under MeitY, who undertook the process of winner selection. MyGov received a total of 599 entries, out of which the winning design was submitted by Shri Ajith P. Suresh.

The winning design reflects India’s ambition to lead the global movement on responsible AI innovation for humanity’s greater good. At its centre is the Ashoka Chakra, symbolizing ethical governance, justice, and the Constitutional values that anchor India’s digital journey.

He said, “I designed the first version of the logo in just 23 hours, then kept refining it to embody the ethics of AI—its radiant flares symbolizing India’s vision extending to the world.

Radiating outward, neural network flares represent AI’s transformative power, bridging divides across languages, sectors, industries, and geographies to drive inclusive progress.

Symbolism embedded in the logo represents a blend of tradition (Ashoka Chakra), innovation (neural network flares), diversity (color gradient), and clarity (typography), designed to communicate the vision and values of the Summit.

The vibrant gradient sweeping across the logo symbolizes innovation and inclusivity, reflecting the my diverse industries, cultures, and communities that are part of the AI revolution. This spectrum of colors is rooted in the values symbolized by the Ashoka Chakra.

Complementing this iconography, the clean and modern typography lends clarity and trust, ensuring strong recall and relevance across digital and print platforms

The visual identity seamlessly unites tradition with modernity, ethics with innovation, and India’s national identity with its global aspirations, capturing the spirit of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. Hosted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the global platform is set to showcase the transformative role of AI in enabling inclusive development, sustainability, and fostering equitable progress. The Summit charts a path where AI serves humanity, advances inclusive growth, fosters social development, and promotes innovations that protect the planet.

Swiss team awarded Best Technical Paper for research on AI for Trusted News

Alexis Allemann, Sebastien Noir and Andrei Popescu-Belis are being awarded the coveted Best Technical Paper at IBC2025 for their work developing an AI Chatbot for Trusted News, underpinned with strict editorial standards and transparency. The paper is entitled EBU NEO – A sophisticated multilingual chatbot for a trusted news ecosystem exploration.

The authors – from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and la Haute École d’Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD) – sought to address the quality, bias and transparency concerns of commercial news chatbots. Their approach was to optimise Retrieval Augmented Generation (a technique used to enhance Large Language Models).  The result is a database of over 3.5 million articles growing by 3000 news stories per day, and an invaluable tool for both professional journalists and the public to explore the news.

Paul Entwistle, Chair of the IBC Technical Papers Committee and Peer Review Panel, said: “The paper was very well written, providing an excellent technical disclosure, innovative improvements, detailed performance comparisons and a case study with important lessons on deploying a public-facing AI. The topic itself, trusted news in the age of AI, is critically important, with the EBU uniquely positioned to develop such a system. The paper highlights the scale and complexity of the task, the impressive capabilities that AI can bring, as well as reminding us of its current limitations. This is excellent work – and significant beyond our own industry.”

The paper – alongside 22 other successful Technical Papers – was selected by IBC’s international peer review panel of 20 media technology experts from 337 submissions covering original research on solutions to real-world problems faced by the international broadcast and digital media industry. The Best Technical Paper will be formally presented at the IBC2025 Conference on Saturday 13th September at 13:30 CEST and celebrated at the IBC Innovation Awards presentation on Sunday 14 September, alongside Thelma Schoonmaker, Globo, and all other award winners, at an invitation only event.

Thelma Schoonmaker’s free-to-attend session will take place on Sunday 14th September at 16:15 CEST on stage 1 of the IBC Conference. For more information on the IBC Conference, please visit: https://show.ibc.org/conference-experience
