Anupam Kher Illustrates Why ‘Giving up is not an option’ in a masterclass

“Failure is an event, never a person”: Kher

#IFFIWood, 23 November 2025

In a meesmerising demonstration, renowned actor Anupam Kher kept a gathering of hundreds totally engrossed in today’s first masterclass at Kala Mandir, Panaji, Goa and captivated their minds with his signature wit and wisdom in a session themed ‘Giving Up is NOT a Choice’.

Anupam Kher opened the session with the tale of losing and regaining his lead role in Saaransh just days before filming. Having poured six months of his heart into the role, the sudden rejection crushed him. In his despair when he was resolved to bid adieu to the city of Mumbai forever, he went to meet director of the film Mahesh Bhatt one last time. Witnessing the intense reaction from Anupam Kher, Bhatt reconsidered and reinstated him and the film went on to become a defining moment in Kher’s career. Reflecting on the experience, Kher spoke of how Saaransh taught him the lesson of not giving up. The setback, he mused, was merely the beginning of his rise.

“All my motivational speeches are based on my life experiences”

Anupam Kher gave multiple examples from his own life throughout the session. He went on to explain how despite living in a cramped, lower-middle-class home with 14 family members, his grandfather had a carefree spirit and unique approach to life. He fondly recollected his happy childhood in spite of the circumstances and shared his grandfather’s teaching of finding happiness in smallest things.

“Failure is an event, never a person.”

Anupam Kher shared a touching memory from his youth, recalling how his father, a clerk in the forest department, shaped his worldview. Kher reminisced about the incident when his father found out from the report card that Kher stood 58th in a class of 60. Rather than getting upset about the result, his father took a long pause and said, “A person who comes first in his class or in sports will always have the pressure of sustaining the track record, as anything less than top grade seems like a failure. But a person who has come 58th has all the opportunities to improve his position. So, do me a favour, next time come 48th.”

“Become the lead in your own Biopic”

Throughout the session he encouraged the gathering to improve their point of view with numerous incidents and examples from his own life. He candidly explained how personality only means that you are comfortable with who you are. He repeatedly urged the audience to believe in themselves and become the central character in their own biopic. He questioned, “Why should life be easy or simple? Why should life not have problems? Because it’s your problems which will make your biopic a superstar biopic.”

The jovial one-man show commanded the attention throughout the QA session. In his concluding answer he said, “‘Giving up is not a choice’ is not just a phrase. It is unbelievable hard work. I believe if you want something, you have to sacrifice and convince yourself to persevere. You will have to endure disappointments. But if you give up, the stories end there, my friend.”

Posted On: 23 NOV 2025 10:30PM by PIB Delhi

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Namrup Fertilizer Plant (BVFCL) in Dibrugarh district today to review key aspects of the existing facility as well as ongoing and upcoming expansion works.

Shri Sonowal said, “Under the dynamic leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, our Namrup Fertiliser Plant, the pride of Assam, is getting a new lease of life with the new brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex with an investment of over ₹10,000 crores. This ambitious initiative will enhance agricultural productivity, create large-scale employment opportunities and strengthen industrial infrastructure. It will significantly contribute to developing the Northeast as one of Southeast Asia’s major productive hubs.”

The Union Minister added, “Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), the oldest fertilizer unit in Northeast India, has been serving farmers of the region since its inception. To further increase its capacity, a fourth plant is set to be established at the Namrup site. Supported by the Government of India, the new plant is expected to be completed in the next five years, with a production capacity of 12.5 lakh metric tonnes per annum.”

He further noted that the expansion will transform the facility into a major production hub, fulfilling fertilizer needs of farmers across the Northeast, while also enabling exports to neighboring countries such as Bhutan and Myanmar. Additional markets in West Bengal and Bihar will also be served through this enhanced capacity.

Shri Sonowal expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, stating that the project fulfills a long-standing aspiration of the people of the Northeast and will contribute significantly to national development.

Prime Minister addresses G20 Session on “A fair and a Just Future for All”

Posted On: 23 NOV 2025 4:02PM by PIB Delhi

Prime Minister addressed today the third session of the G20 Summit on “A Fair and a Just Future for All – Critical Minerals; Decent Work; Artificial Intelligence.” Prime Minister called for a fundamental change in the way critical technologies are promoted. He noted that such technology applications must be ‘human-centric’ rather than ‘finance-centric’, ‘global’ rather than ‘national’, and based on ‘open source’ rather than ‘exclusive models’. He elaborated that this vision has been integrated into India’s technology ecosystem and the same has resulted into significant benefits, be it in space applications, AI or digital payments where it is a world leader.

Speaking on Artificial Intelligence, Prime Minister outlined India’s approach based on equitable access, population-level skilling, and responsible deployment. He noted that under India-AI Mission, accessible high-performance computing capacity is being built with the objective of ensuring that AI benefits reach everyone in the country. Underlining that AI must translate into global good, Prime Minister called for a global compact based on the principles of transparency, human oversight, safety-by-design and prevention of misuse. He emphasized that while AI should expand human capabilities, the ultimate decision should be made by humans themselves. Prime Minister stated that India will be hosting the AI Impact Summit in February 2026 with the theme ‘Sarvajanam Hitaya, Sarvajanam Sukhaya’ [Welfare for all, Happiness for all], and invited all G20 countries to join this effort.

Prime Minister emphasized that in the age of AI, there is a need to rapidly shift our approach from ‘Jobs of Today’ to ‘Capabilities of Tomorrow’. Recalling progress made on talent mobility at the New Delhi G20 Summit, he proposed that the group should develop a Global Framework for Talent Mobility in the coming years.

Prime Minister concluded by articulating India’s message and commitment for global well-being– that it stands for – development that is sustainable, trade that is trusted, finance that is fair, and progress in which everyone prospers. Full remarks of Prime Minister may be seen [here].

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah has congratulated the joint team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Delhi Police for busting Mega Trans-National Methamphetamine Cartel under Operation “Crystal Fortress”.

In a post on X platform, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah said that “Our govt is shattering drug cartels at unprecedented pace. Fiercely pursuing the top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach to the investigation of drugs, a breakthrough was achieved by seizing 328 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹262 crore in New Delhi and arresting two. The operation was a brilliant example of seamless multi-agency coordination to achieve PM Modi Ji’s vision for a drug-free India. Congratulations to the joint team of NCB and Delhi Police.”

In an important break-through, Narcotics Control Bureau (OPS Branch) in collaboration with Special Cell, (CI) Delhi Police has busted a trans-national trafficking network with seizure about 328 kilograms of high-quality Methamphetamine from a house in Chhatarpur, Delhi, on 20.11.2025 under Operation Crystal Fortress — a coordinated intelligence-driven crackdown targeting high-volume synthetic drug networks.

This decisive action is the culmination of a relentless pursuit over last few months based on intelligence and technical intercepts uncovering a well-organized trafficking chain, eventually leading to this major breakthrough.

Two persons, including a woman from Nagaland, detained with the support of Nagaland police from whose residence the bulk seizure was affected, have been arrested and other operatives have been identified which include kingpin operating from abroad, who is also wanted in the case related to the seizure of 82.5 kilograms of high-grade cocaine case last year in Delhi by NCB. Efforts are underway, in coordination with international enforcement partners, to secure his deportation to India to face legal proceedings.

This is one of the biggest catches of Methamphetamine in Delhi.  Preliminary investigation indicates that the cartel was operating through multiple couriers, safe-houses, and layered handlers, with Delhi being used as a key hub for distribution both within India and to overseas markets.

Operation “Crystal Fortress” underscores NCB’s unwavering focus on dismantling synthetic drug cartels and their trans-national networks. To fight against drug trafficking, NCB seeks support of the citizens. Any person can share information related to sale of narcotics by calling on MANAS- National Narcotics Helpline Toll Free Number-1933.

‘Workers are the miners of nation-building’: Shri Sarbananda Sonowal

“Empowering Tea Workers strengthens the foundation of the Nation,” says Union Minister

‘Honouring workers is essential for national strength,’ says Shri Sonowal at Shramik Kalyan Divas

Posted On: 23 NOV 2025 9:45PM by PIB Delhi

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways(MoPSW), Shri Sarbananda Sonowal attended the ‘Shramik Kalyan Divas’ programme  held at Dinjoy field, Chabua in Dibrugarh district. today, organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of eminent tea worker leader Santosh Kumar Tapno.

The event featured recognition of individuals and institutions for their contributions to education, healthcare, welfare & infrastructure development in the tea garden regions. Shri Sonowal presented felicitations and handed over financial assistance cheques to beneficiaries under the Assam Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

The Minister also launched free CSC-enabled registration, renewal, and onboarding services under the Nirman Sakhi initiative, aimed at enhancing welfare access for workers.

Speaking at the event, he paid rich tribute to Santosh Kumar Tapno, describing him as a visionary social reformer, educator, and labour leader who dedicated his life to the uplift of the tea tribes & Adivasi communities.

A nation that fails to honour its workers can never become strong. A society that does not respect its workers cannot remain healthy. Governments that treat workers only as a vote-bank fail in nation-building,” Shri Sonowal said.

He said the era of hollow political slogans around workers’ welfare had ended after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, leading to a transformation rooted in policy, intent, and inclusive governance.

Under PM Modiji’s leadership in the last 11 years, workers—whether from tea gardens, factories, construction, or agriculture—have gained economic and social security through schemes that ensure housing, healthcare, education, banking access, and dignified livelihood opportunities. Workers are the foundation of nation-building,” Shri Sonowal said.

Highlighting India’s growing economic strength, Shri Sonowal added, “India is now the fourth-largest global economy. Our workers today build ships, defence equipment, and export goods worldwide. The reason India stands with confidence is because of PM Modi’s resolve, capability, and vision.”

The Union Minister noted that more than 7.5 lakh tea workers in Assam have opened bank accounts through PM Jan Dhan Yojana, ensuring direct financial inclusion. He mentioned the state’s initiative ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’, under which each tea garden worker receives ₹5,000 directly in their bank account.

Shri Sonowal highlighted improvements in roads, electricity, healthcare facilities, quality education, safe drinking water, and maternity care in tea garden areas.

“The sweat and hard work of our tea workers are infused into every leaf of Assam tea. The government is committed to strengthening their progress and wellbeing. Workers are the backbone, the driving force, and the miners of nation-building,” Sri Sonowal said.

Encouraging innovation in the tea industry, Sonowal urged companies to explore diversified production, “Tea companies must explore value-added products to enhance global competitiveness. This can significantly expand economic opportunities for the community.”

Shri Sonowal expressed deep emotional solidarity with the tea tribes and Adivasi community, stating that his childhood memories in the region were rooted in respect and belonging.

Our future generations must understand the significance of this day. We are committed to ensuring the comprehensive development of workers because the nation’s progress is impossible without their prosperity,”  Shri Sonowal said.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya extended his felicitations to young sporting talents on the eve of the fifth edition Khelo India University Games 2025 (KIUG), scheduled to commence in Rajasthan tomorrow.

“The Khelo India University Games stand as a powerful celebration of India’s emerging sporting talent. This platform brings together the finest young athletes who exemplify dedication, discipline and the spirit of excellence. As India advances with renewed ambition towards the Asian Games 2026 and the Commonwealth Games ahead, these Games will play a pivotal role in shaping champions for the global stage,” said Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

Commending the athletes for their perseverance and commitment, he expressed confidence that the event would further strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem and inspire excellence across universities nationwide.

“The Khelo India pathway ensures that every athlete with potential receives the opportunity and support to rise to greatness. We are committed to nurturing their aspirations and proud to witness the future of Indian sport unfold here,” Dr Mandaviya further added.

KIUG 2025 is organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), in association with the Government of Rajasthan and the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC), will be held across seven cities — Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bharatpur and Bikaner.

This marks the first time Rajasthan will host the Khelo India University Games, a flagship event of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports that showcases India’s finest university athletes.

The Games are also held in association with the Association of Indian Universities and National Sports Federations. Poornima University is the host University in Rajasthan.

Close to 5000 athletes from over 230 universities will compete in 24 disciplines, including 23 medal sports and one demonstration event.

New inclusions this year are canoeing, kayaking, cycling, and beach volleyball — reflecting the growing diversity and ambition of Indian university sport.

Several top athletes including Olympic participants are taking part in the Khelo India University Games in Rajasthan.

Prominent among them are double Olympian swimmer Srihari Nataraj and a clutch of international archers like Olympian Bhajan Kaur, Parneet Kaur, an Asian Games gold medallist and world champion compound archer Aditi Gopichand Swami.

Nataraj of Jain University will be taking part in six swimming events and this will be his second Khelo India University Games after the 2022 edition.

“KIUG is a great platform for upcoming swimmers. There are quite a few who have been swimming at the Asian level and I am looking forward to competing with them. I reckon events like KIUG and the Khelo India Youth Games are extremely good programmes run by the sports ministry and athletes should take full advantage of them,” he said.

Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Rajasthan and 2004 Athens Olympics silver medallist in rifle shooting, said: “Every young person has some talent in him or her. It is our PM Narendra Modiji’s vision to provide opportunities for such youngsters to excel in their craft. This KIUG is exactly that platform for 5000 athletes to compete in an environment where skills are paramount. Having said that, winning medals is not everything. Sports also helps in making good citizens.”

In the last edition of the Khelo India University Games, Chandigarh University topped with 66 medals (28 gold). Lovely Professional University and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar finished No. 2 and 3. Eight Games records were created and all in athletics.
